I bought an advent calendar. And the delight in finding the tiny window, then pealing it open to reveal a bit of magic during shortened days, well— “That’s what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown.”
My grandmother taught me. Bought me one annually through college and my fleeing to Manhattan. And this year, after some time without—and bah humbugs after her passing, I bought myself one. We open a new window daily.
Some mornings I forget, thrilled by evening to discover we still have the task at hand. And just like her—the little picture reminds me to shine. To follow one’s north star; tending the light, which even in darkest of days…burns again.
